Maison quatre façades in Milies (Pelion)

On the slopes of Mount Pelion, in the traditional village of Milies, this house sits on a 700 sqm plot overlooking the Pagasetic Gulf and features an infinity pool.

Built in 2004 and renovated in 2009, the house offers 120 sqm over two floors, with a living room, 2 bedrooms and 2 shower rooms. The kitchen includes an oven and dishwasher, and the house is sold furnished and ready to use from day one. Windows are fitted with traditional shutters. The balcony has recently been modified and converted into a French balcony. Following the traditional layout of this region, the living/dining area and kitchen are all located on the first floor, while the bedrooms are situated on the ground floor.

Oil-fired central heating keeps it warm through the Pelion winter, when the mountain villages see snow, and air conditioning handles the hot months. The same boiler provides hot water. The house is connected to the mains water supply and sewer network, has WiFi and good 4G reception, and is fitted with a WiFi smoke alarm. A separate storage building on the plot holds garden furniture, tools and supplies.

The 40 sqm infinity pool is a focal point of the property, with its waters appearing to merge with the Pagasetic Gulf beyond. The outdoor spaces are designed around it, inviting long summer days by the pool and relaxed evenings taking in the views. A jacuzzi beside it makes the outdoor area usable well into spring and autumn evenings. The plot is fenced, and like most houses in the old lanes of Pelion villages, the house has no private parking: a shared parking area lies some metres away.

For a buyer looking for a home in Greece that doesn’t feel like a resort, Milies fits the bill. Mornings in the village square under the plane tree, afternoons by the pool or visiting the beaches along the Pagasetic Gulf, and evenings watching the lights of Volos come on across the water. Yet this home is for all four seasons. Spring and autumn are ideal for walking the old cobbled paths between villages, and winter brings fireside weekends and snow on the peaks above.

Rental potential

Pelion attracts visitors through much of the year: families and couples in summer, walkers in spring and autumn, and weekend visitors from Athens and Thessaloniki in winter. Local management services can look after bookings and changeovers for owners who are not in Greece full time.

Location – distances

Milies is one of South Pelion’s best-known villages, built of stone at around 400 metres above sea level. Its square, shaded by a large plane tree, has tavernas and cafés, and the church of Taxiarches stands beside it, known for its painted interior. The village library, founded in 1814, keeps a collection of historic books and manuscripts. Milies is also the end of the line for the Moutzouris, the narrow-gauge steam railway that winds up from Ano Lechonia through the warmer months on selected days. People live in the village year-round, with small shops for everyday needs; Volos, 40 minutes away, covers everything else. Vyzitsa, another traditional village, is a short walk or drive away.
